Additional information

This work demonstrated for the first time that it is possible to predict bacteria affinity to form biofilm by characterisation of the active molecules involved in the addition process. This is the first step towards controlling biofouling in water treatment systems. This work led to collaborations with researchers from the Univeristy of Toronto (M. Dittrich) and University of Copenhaguen (S. Stipp) through a Programme Grant on Hard-Soft interfaces (EP/I001514/1).
