We have improved the contour method in order to provide better reliability in surface residual stress measurements that has extended its use to the measurement of residual stresses in surface treated components (shot and laser peened, case hardened, etc.) as well as thin sheets and micro components. This work was a result of a PhD funded by Airbus Germany studying the application of laser peening to aerospace aluminium sheet.
