Additional information

This is the first theoretical model developed for the oblique impact of elastoplastic spheres, from which complete rebound kinematics can be predicted and energy dissipation in both normal and tangential directions are fully considered. The work has a wide application in a number of scientific fields including particle technology, granular physics, environment engineering, mechanical engineering, tribology and astrophysics. This is a continuation of our research related to impact of particles/granular materials funded previously by EPSRC. The work has led to the development of an international network for which the 1st author was awarded an EU grant in 2011.
