Additional information

Guardianship for children seeking asylum, including those who are trafficked from non-EU member states, is a topic of emerging importance in Europe. This extensive two-year evaluation of the Scottish model of Guardianship has been cited by the Joint Committee on Human Rights as a template for the development of Guardianship Services across the UK. It develops and provides evidence for the ways the lives of unaccompanied children are made sustainable in temporary or permanent contexts of resettlement. It engages with practice and policy in relation to asylum, well being and the reconstruction of social networks of support, highlighting effective, timely and cost-effective support provided by Guardians in their day to day work. It is placed within a broader framework of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child 1989.
