SF-3: This paper demonstrates elimination of the harmonic distortion that occurs when an ultrasonic medical transducer is excited with MOSFET drive circuits. This patented (GB1222882.1, priority 19/12/2012) technique paves the way for new forms of combined contrast imaging and ultrasound-aided drug delivery (sonoporation) being developed by Physics/Medicine/Engineering at Leeds, through an EPSRC Healthcare grant (EP/I000623, PI:Evans, £1.2M) with partners Epigem and Precision Acoustics. The Leeds Institute of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences are currently validating in-vivo the efficacy of this new sonoporation scheme, following our successful in-vitro demonstrations (McLaughlan et al, IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, in press).
