Additional information

This highly cited paper (86 citations, Oct 13) evaluated FDG-PET/CT as a diagnostic tool for malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours (MPNSTs) which are difficult to detect in neurofibromatosis (NF1) individuals. Dual time point imaging was introduced to improve diagnostic accuracy in this difficult group of paediatric and adult patients. The methodology developed in this publication is now used world-wide as part of the assessment of these patient groups. This research has led to MRC funding for further studies to optimise the PET scanning technique, reduce the patient radiation dose and develop more rapid scanning acquisitions.
