Additional information

Upon publication, this was the most detailed seismic tomographic model of the upper mantle beneath Earth's youngest continental flood basalt province: the Ethiopian traps. It was also the most detailed upper mantle image of the final stages of transition from continental rifting to incipient ocean spreading in Ethiopia. Bastow was invited to present details of this work at several Earth Science departments, including Cambridge. This work, and that of others from the NERC-funded Ethiopia-Afar Geoscientific Lithospheric Experiment, contributed to successful bid for new £2.5M NERC funded Afar consortium (NE/E007414/1).
