Additional information

This study, funded by a contract with Pfizer Inc (now Zoetis Inc, cf. Dr Paul Domionowski, contact available on request) employed a synthetic biopolymer to increase membrane permeability to the preservative trehalose and so impart cellular osmoprotection and resistance to freezing. The results were filed for IP protection (UK Patent Application No. 1000999.1) and underpin a BBSRC BRIC award (BB/I016961/1). A research collaboration with GSK is being concluded (cf. Dr Christina Basford: contact available on request) to test the preservation technology with their cell line.
