Comparison of the mechanical and physical properties of a carbon fibre epoxy composite manufactured by resin transfer moulding using conventional and microwave heating
This is the first report of the manufacture of carbon fibre epoxy composites by using microwave curing in mould following resin transfer moulding. The technique has been developed in response to the need to reduce the cycle time for composites manufacture as cure cycles can be long limiting production rates. The paper shows that carbon fibre composites can be manufactured using this route with similar properties to those manufactured using conventional heating. There is a significant reduction in the cure time making this an attractive route.
