Binary-coded 4.25-bit W-band monocrystallineSilicon MEMS multistage dielectric-block phase shifters
NS-1: This paper presents a new realization of MEMS phase shifters with the best insertion and return losses reported over the whole W-band, and with a ten-fold increase in power handling, which is, for the first time, not limited by the MEMS structure. It led to the 2009 EuMIC prize (www.eumwa.org/en/european-microwave-week/eumic/prize-winners.html), the award of IEEE Graduate Fellowships in 2010 and 2011 (www.mtt.org/students/176-graduate-scholarship-recipients.html, only the second person to win twice), and the 2012 IEEE Doctoral Research Award (ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=6387815). There was direct industrial engagement with Ericsson, Volvo, Electrobit, and Silex, and the research contributed to FP7 project ‘TUMESA’ (radio.tkk.fi/tumesa; Ref:224197, €1.85M).
