A primary hydrogen-deuterium isotope effect observed at the single-molecule level
This paper is an important achievement relating to the basic understanding of chemical reaction kinetics. A primary hydrogen–deuterium isotope effect is readily detected at the single-molecule level whether or not the step involved is rate limiting, which is not the case when conventional techniques are used. This work is chosen as a cover story and reported in News and Views in Nature Chemistry and Chemistry World. This work was orally presented at a conference of ISACS5, 2011 by W-W Li. A further advanced ERC grant ‘Covalent Single-Molecule Chemistry of the Cell’ was awarded to the co-author Hagan Bayley (http://erc.europa.eu).
