Additional information

Design of breakwater armour units against tsunami attack has received little attention in the past due to the comparatively low frequency of these events and the rarity of structures designed specifically to withstand them. However, field surveys of recent events have shown flaws in the design of protection structures. The authors have expanded their previous analysis to a number of other ports that were affected by recent tsunamis. This results in a formula that can easily be applied by practising engineers to check whether a certain armour unit is likely to fail catastrophically during a given tsunami event.
