Blood vessel maturation and response to vascular-disrupting therapy in single vascular endothelial growth factor-A isoform-producing tumors

This work was part of a Cancer Research UK-funded Programme Grant and published in the prestigious AACR-journal Cancer Research (IF 8.65). It combined the interdisciplinary skills of microscopy, tumour biology, microcirculation, mouse models and image analysis to evaluate the impact of anti-vascular drugs on cancer therapy. Reyes-Aldasoro was the image-analysis specialist who analysed quantitatively vessel morphology, vascular leakage and red blood cell velocity through novel algorithms. The output of these algorithms demonstrated the statistical difference between tumour lines that expressed different VEGF isoforms. Consequently, routine testing for VEGF-expression may be used for personalised cancer treatment.
