High-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy was performed in close proximity to a high-flux neutron beam for the first time, giving rare access to very neutron-rich nuclei. This experiment paved the way for future similar experimental campaigns, such as the EXILL project (EXOGAM at ILL) with >120 participants and inspired the FIPPS instrument currently under construction at the ILL (budget >$2 M) which will investigate nuclear structure and the fission reaction, useful for reactor studies. Some ~20 students are using the EXILL data for their Ph.D. I proposed, led, and performed this experiment and made a large fraction of the data analysis, as well as writing most of the article.
