Dr Wellesley has responsibility for several large multi-centre research studies investigating prenatal and pregnancy outcomes. She is a co-applicant for the MRC funded Evaluation of Array Comparative genomic Hybridisation study (EACH) in prenatal diagnosis of fetal anomalies and has a role as chair of the Review Panel for all unexpected or uncertain results. The role of the study is to advise on the National implementation of array-CGH in the prenatal setting.

Dr Wellesley is a co-applicant for 2 studies into Sex Chromosome Trisomies: 'Cognitive and behavioural outcomes of children with an extra sex chromosome’ and 'Development of materials to help families explain to their child about a sex chromosome abnormality', with a particular role that includes all Clinical and Genetic aspects of the study.

She also runs the Wessex Antenatally Detected Anomalies Register from which much research arises together with other national and international registers (British Isles Network of Congenital Anomaly Registers and European surveillance of congenital anomalies).

Dr Wellesley integrates with members of the human genetics theme in the Faculty of Medicine (Wilson D, Temple IK).

Dr White was awarded an HEFCE-NIHR/CNO Senior Clinical Lectureship 2012. As a co-applicant on the NIHR Programme for Applied Research Grant ”Reliable Accurate Prenatal non-Invasive Diagnosis (RAPID) - an integrated project to refine and implement safer antenatal testing” she has responsibility for the non-invasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD) of Down Syndrome (DS) section of the research programme. Her research group has successfully developed and piloted a next generation sequencing assays for NIPD of DS and we anticipate translating this research into techniques available to patients within the next 2 years. Dr White collaborates with Prof Cross having a major role in developing standardisation of molecular monitoring of the BCR-ABL1 fusion transcript in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). This led to the 1st World Health Organisation approved panel for quantification of the BCR-ABL1 mRNA fusion transcript and commercialisation of plasmid controls in collaboration with the National Institute of Biological Standards and Control and the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements.
