Double-weighted statement

This book represents the culmination of a three-book project, which involved the accumulation of a considerable body of material, in this case returning to ancient philosophers of virtue and vice as well as examining a wide corpus of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century texts. Moriarty's book won the 2012 R.H. Gapper Prize for the 'best book published in the field of French Studies'. The awarders wrote that 'the range of enquiry is extensive', adding that 'the author demonstrates an impressive range and depth of scholarship in his engagement with both primary sources and critical predecessors'.
