This led to consultancy and ongoing research collaboration with Magna Parva and the European Space Agency on the Manned Spacecraft Project. Follow-on research funding was provided by Trend Marine Ltd, including a PhD studentship (RG65065). When this output was reformulated for practitioners in the Structural Engineer it was awarded the Guthrie Brown Medal by the Institution of Structural Engineers. Overend was invited to make a scientific visit at TU Darmstadt funded by COST TU0905. He was invited to speak on glass at TU Denmark and TU Ghent, and to author a chapter on glass in ICE manual of Structural Design.
