Additional information

The paper describes the production and characterisation of nanostructured silver films by a low cost, fast deposition process using a low toxicity water based precursor. These points are crucial to the commercial development of the process [patent GB 0900206-4, DW Sheel]. The paper established the particularly high biocidal action of these transparent films. This work was the basis for future development via paper [doi:10.1016/j.jphotochem.2010.09.017; doi: 10.1166/jnn.2011.5031] and invited conference presentations [Infection Prevention, London 2009; UK Photocatalysis Network , Glasgow, 2009]. This also contributed to securing an EC grant [FP7 NMP 309530].
