Double-weighted statement

The culmination of primary research originating in Mutch’s doctoral thesis and expanded by a British Academy grant in 2007, this is the first project to give attention to fiction of the British Socialist movement. It recovers fictions by British socialists, including forgotten creative work by some famous politicians (for example, Herbert Morrison) that is largely unpublished outside of the original periodical, so the volumes provide access to work previously unavailable outside of specialist libraries. The introductions consider the use of fiction and serialisation for political purposes and the manipulation of form to convey a socialist vision.
