Additional information

Future photonic quantum computers could be built from individual quantum gates. Paper presents first realisation of linear-optics quantum gate in guided-optic technology. University of Bristol group originated this novel pair-photon generation scheme and are now using it to demonstrate quantum-information primitives. In addition to receiving considerable academic interest, work contributed to successful European grant application "Q-ESSENCE" (No. 248095, €4.7M, 2010-3) in which University of Bristol leads work package on this topic, and ERC Advanced Grant "QOWSS" (£2.1M, 2011-5) which includes substantial element on fibre sources. Work is identified as research group highlight in REF5.
