A Methodology for Realizing High Efficiency Class-J in a Linear and Broadband PA
This paper demonstrates a practical implementation of the Continuous Radio Frequency Power Amplifier(RFPA) Mode theory. This work received the prestigious best student paper award (out of over 200) at the International Microwave Symposium (Boston 2009). It has set a new standard for power, efficiency, and bandwidth in microwave power amplifiers through a hardware demonstrator and a documented design methodology that has been widely adopted in the industry in new product developments (e.g. M/A-COM paper, Andrew.patterson@macomtech.com, IMS 2013). RFPAs with broader bandwidth and high efficiency are a critical requirement in next generation communications and military radar systems.
