This paper illustrates a spin off which can come from experience in a technology, with an understanding of the underpinning science. From a familiarity of the effects of reagents capable of stabilising protein, knowing the outcome of those reactions and how they are characterised in analytical techniques, light can be shed on a problem outside the original technology. This can have wider application in the field of forensic science.
