Additional information

The quality of leather is usually judged by experts in the industry. This paper reports on a method of automating the process using a neural network model. The inputs are measurable physical characteristics of the leather, and the output is a numerical value which corresponds to the quality of the material. The importance of this research lies in the fact that the expertise could be automated, and that the method could easily be reproduced for other materials which rely on human quality assessment.
