Interaction of a strong shockwave with a gas bubble in a liquid medium: A numerical study
This paper introduced a new language as well as new insights regarding the physics of shock-induced bubble collapse, a process with applications in numerous fields including histotripsy/lithotripsy. The understanding developed led to several patents (WO/2011/138622, WO/2011/064592, WO/2011/064594, etc.), aiming at better controlling this process and intensifying its effects. Substantial venture capital funding preceded and followed-up this publication (a total of approximately £2M). Based on this new scientific knowledge and on the resulting IP, a new spin-out company was set up (Oxyntix Ltd, http://www.oxyntix.com/) which is now in operation for two years.
