Additional information

Grubb’s exponent is an important haemodynamic parameter describing cerebral blood flow and volume, and is frequently used in modelling the brain. By conducting hypercapnia and hypocapnia studies on 14 healthy adult subjects we pointed out a weakness in the way the Grubb’s exponent has been used in previous studies. This has generated significant interest, e.g. leading researchers Boas and Franceschini have discussed this work in their recent review paper and appealed for a more cautious approach in the application of Grubb’s exponent. Our value for Grubb’s exponent is applicable for use in physiological modelling involving near infrared spectroscopy measurements.
