Additional information

<06> Published in the authoritative Journal of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI), the discovery in this paper of the average diameter of intense rain cells in the UK using extensive radar data combined with a dense network of rain gauges was further applied via spatial rain correlation analysis in a subsequent Radio Science paper by the authors. It became the basis of a further line of research into the application of diversity to reduce link outage in satellite communication systems affected by intense rain.
