Asteroid close encounters characterization using differential algebra: the case of Apophis
Significance of output:
The research was carried out under ESA Ariadna study NEO Encounter 2029 (25 K€, technical officer Dr. Dario Izzo, dario.izzo@esa.int). The approach enables a drastic reduction of computational time for Monte Carlo simulations. The method is included in a NEO simulator currently used to support the design of Space Situational Awareness NEO Architecture in CO-II ESA contract (Telespazio subcontract 30 k€, contact person Vicinanza Renato renato.vicinanza@telespazio.com). The work is cited in the statement of work of the ESA invitation to tender Nonlinear Propagation of Uncertainties in Space Dynamics based on Taylor Differential Algebra (150 k€, contact person Guillermo Ortega Guillermo.Ortega@esa.int).
