Additional information

This work is an extension to work funded by ICI Synetix to develop hierarchically ordered porous solids as catalytic supports. This is the first report where vanadium ions have been incorporated into the hierarchically ordered porous silica matrix (originally patented materials with ICI Synetix) for the efficient oxidation of bulkier organic molecules of pharmaceutical interest. The concept has already been used by the scientific community to incorporate other transition metal ions in the matrix for a variety of applications such as industrial catalysis (Chem. Soc. Rev., 2013, DOI: 10.1039/C2CS35378D) and energy storage (Chem. Mater., 2012, 24, 3800).
