Additional information
To understand the origin of friction between skin and nonwoven fabrics (such as those used in incontinence pads), we devised and used methods to relate measured normal and friction forces to the nature and area of the contact (fibre footprint) between skin and fabrics. This will pave the way for new fabrics kinder to the skin. The insights and methods this work yielded are now being used to investigate fabrics in clinical studies on wet and dry skin in our research laboratories and those of the world's leading pad manufacturing company (SCA Hygiene AB) who funded the work.
