Postcolonial Asylum : Seeking Sanctuary Before the Law
Postcolonial Asylum studies asylum from an anglophone postcolonial studies perspective. Engaging these cognate but distinct disciplines presented a particularly challenging project. Research and writing took four years, requiring familiarity with: asylum law in the UK, Europe and Australia; the ethical arguments surrounding cosmopolitanism, immigration, and hospitality; the sociology of asylum and immigration; and the critical vocabularies associated with film, photography and the visual arts. The book draws on legal cases and government & NGO reports as well as more typical literary and critical material. The complex interdisciplinarity involved and the global range of material underlies the case for double-weighting.
