Additional information

<09>This work has been cited extensively as evidence of the difficulties encountered by novice programmers, and has gained significance in a number of ways: a subset of the questions on reference assignment used in the study were employed by Ford and Venema's work on assessing the succes of Introductory Programmming Courses, and Moreno et al. have employed the concept of cognitive conflict and animations but extended the animations to also generate the conflicts.
