Additional information

The authors use their own interviews as vehicles for exploring and illustrating how language use is negotiated in face to face encounters between minority language speakers. In a paper which subjects short exchanges between researcher and respondent to in-depth critical scrutiny, language selection is shown to be the outcome of complex and situated negotiation.
