Die Mildmay-Konferenz und britische judenmissionarische Impulse für die deutsche Heiligungsbewegung.
This paper was commissioned by a research institute in Marburg that focuses on neo-pietism in modern German ecclesiastical history.
This chapter highlights British evangelical missionary culture influences on the holiness movement in Germany, drawing on sources from the Bodleian, Central Protestant Archives, Berlin, and Colindale. It focuses on individuals who traversing national boundaries to cross-pollinate with Germany’s distinct evangelical culture. The article is the first consideration of the Mildmay Conference, London, and its successor in Keswick. Particular focus is on missionary organisations, working amongst British and German urban Jewish populations, whose premillennial eschatology undergirded the activities of converts and backers. Finally it analyses how and why interdenominational, international bonds of unity were threatened by turbulent nationalism, 1914-45.
