Additional information

An automated surface matching algorithm first developed for landslides, using satellite-derived Digital Elevation Models to scale and orient archival photogrammetric data without ground control, was applied to aerial photography for the Slakbreen glacier system, Svalbard. Resultant elevation change rates (-4.12 ma-1) compare well to ground truth derived from lidar data (-4.11 ma-1), equating to 0.6% volumetric difference. Near-global satellite coverage presents the opportunity to analyse glacial change in this way worldwide.
