DPS-1: This publication arises from a successful ongoing international collaboration with Ecole Normale Supérieure (Paris). By injection seeding a terahertz quantum cascade laser (QCL) with terahertz pulses generated by a femtosecond laser/photoconductive switch, we investigated the degree of sampling coherence between the lasers on picosecond timescales. This furthermore demonstrated a new approach for powerful compact QCL-based coherent sources for terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The work supported a successful EPSRC Programme Grant with UCL, LCN and Cambridge (EP/J017671, PI:Seeds, £6,568,979) to develop coherent terahertz systems, which requires QCLs to be injection-locked to continuous-wave telecommunications-based technologies.
