SF-1: This paper presents an extensible receive architecture, capable of configuration from the metropolitan scale down to the home-gateway/mobile device. It resulted from a £2M Yorkshire Forward project (2006–2009; £180k (Leeds)) to develop 4G (WiMAX) home gateway topologies, a KTP project (Ref:1384, 2006–2008), and two EPSRC CASE awards (2006–2010) with PACE (darren.fawcett@pace.com). The work led to two international patents: ‘Receiver with high performance channel estimation’ (European Patent EP2369799, US Patent US2011235729; priority 24/03/2010), and ‘Data receiver with improved response to long and short term data signal fading’ (EP2369801, US2012014481; priority also 24/03/2010).
