LXZ-3: This paper proposes a low-complexity interference cancellation and detection algorithm for orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) uplinks. Based on this research and existing School collaborations with the Principal Technologist at Pace PLC (darren.fawcett@pace.com), a new programme was established to address Pace’s need for practical solutions to the interference/noise problems for OFDM-based powerline communication systems. Pace sponsored two PhD studentships (Khangosstar, Mehboob) in 2009, which led to patenting (EP2629474, US2013/208816; priority 15/02/2012) of techniques for adaptive impulse noise mitigation. It also resulted in a new collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent, Belgium (haris.gacanin@alcatel-lucent.com), who supported one-year internships for Khangosstar (2012), and Raymundo (2013).
