Additional information

LXZ-4: This paper presents a low-complexity, high-accuracy, synchronization technique for orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) uplinks. The importance of synchronization in small-cells led to support from BT (see LXZ-1), and a three-year £350,000 collaborative project (funded by Shandong Academy of ICT) with Shandong Satellite Communications (chengling@gwsat.com), starting October 2012, to investigate satellite small-cells. It also resulted, through Telefónica’s Chief Radio Engineer (Robert Joyce), in a collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent (george.noon@alcatel-lucent.com)/Telefónica, who trialled small-cells at the London Olympics. Through a sabbatical, Joyce completed his part-time PhD in 2013 at Leeds based on these trials.
