A corotational hybrid-trefftz stress formulation for modelling cohesive cracks
A new numerical technique has been developed for modelling fracture in heterogeneous quasi-brittle materials, which directly captures the influence of the micro-structure. The research was funded by the EPSRC (EP/D500273), and contributed to the award to Kaczmarczyk of the Crisfield Prize at the annual UK Association of Computational Mechanics in Engineering Conference in 2008 . Kaczmarczyk also presented a keynote lecture at the 18th International Conference on Computer Methods in Mechanics, Poland, 2009 (http://www.cmm.uz.zgora.pl/). This paper initiated close cooperation with EDF Energy Generation Ltd (Contact: neil.mclachlan@edf-energy.com) on three research projects (>£400k) on the modelling of crack propagation in nuclear graphite.
