Component Interactions in Jet Fuels: Fuel System Icing Inhibitor Additive
The consequences of water in aircraft fuel can be dramatic, as exemplified by the crash that occurred at Heathrow Airport on 18th January 2008. One of the recommendations of the Air Accident Report: 1/2010 G-YMMM EW/C2008/01/01 was “that the Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency conduct a study into the feasibility of expanding the use of anti-ice additives in aviation turbine fuel”. The significance, relevance and timeliness of this paper, which focuses on interactions occurring between water, jet fuel and anti-ice additive, lies in the fact that it was in press at the time of the accident.
