Additional information

This research has been applied to the development of a new Rolls-Royce engine. This work shows the behavior of high lift low pressure blades at low Reynolds number and has demonstrated that using as cast surface is possible to remove the polishing operation and to save fuel consumption. The study, carried out at engine representative conditions, suggests that a blade with as-cast surface roughness has a lower loss than a polished one with a reduction in the specific fuel consumption of 0.77%. This was the third of the top ten list most downloaded papers in April 2010.
