Additional information
The study significantly improved understanding of the challenges in identifying and intervening with alcohol problems in older people. The findings have informed practice (e.g. they were incorporated into the British Association of Social Work’s pocket guide on alcohol and older people), generated significant media interest (e.g. interview on Panorama programme, articles in Telegraph newspaper and Better Health magazine), are cited on various websites including Alcohol Policy UK, Social Care Online and the Campaign to End Loneliness, resulted in the instigation of Coalition for Older Adults Affected by Substance Misuse and led to further research.
