Additional information

Cogliano conceived the structure and content of the volume in consultation with the editor. Cogliano designed the volume to take stock of the vast and growing scholarly literature on Jefferson and to offer fresh insights from leading scholars on Jefferson and his time. (xxi). He convened a meeting in Oxford with a small group of Jefferson scholars to identify the larger group of contributors for the volume. He invited the contributors representing institutions in the United States, England, Australia and Germany including two Pulitzer Prize winners. Cogliano identified topics and themes but encouraged contributors to write original essays. He negotiated the topics and titles with each of the thirty-two contributors. He edited each contribution and supervised the volume through production. Cogliano wrote the introduction and one essay.
