Additional information

A number of models to describe satellites connected via a tether exist in the literature. This paper provides a unified model and sheds light on why many previous models were unstable and did not accurately reflect reality. Tethering satellites is becoming increasingly of interest to the industry as a means of keeping small satellites in close proximity and working and sharing data together. This paper provides an efficient solution for their design and operation.
