Double-weighted statement

This is a sizeable monograph (408 pages) which draws together large quantities of diverse and largely neglected source material. The gathering of this material, which included several whole volumes of seldom-read fragments of Greek historiography and chronographic works, for most of which no translations from the original Greek are available, a good deal of epigraphy, and several major works of universal history, as well as a large corpus of Attic oratory, took the best part of two years of full-time research during the tenure of a Philip Leverhulme prize. Only then could interpretation, analysis, and the articulation of arguments begin.
