Significance of output:

Aluminium alloys are widely used in engineering structures. Deformation by severe plastic deformation to achieve fine grains is an effective method to improve their formability and strength for future application. To exploit these benefits it is crucial to accurately predict the high-strain deformation processes. In this study, a new comprehensive model was constructed in first time to predict microstructure and strength of a range of Al alloys subjected to high levels of cold plastic deformation. The accuracy of this model has been verified by industrially relevant cold deformation processes. This work was supported by EPSRC First Grant (2005-2008, £130k).
