Additional information

This paper, from collaboration with three paper recycling companies, Smurfitt Kappa (K.Fiddy, Kate.Fiddy@smurfitkappa.co.uk), Kimberly Clark (M.Broomfield, Mark.Broomfield@kcc.com) and Aylesford Newsprint (R.Bain, rachel.bain@aylnews.com), assessed the applicability of small-scale gasification for the recovery of energy from a problematic waste stream. Previous work had only considered much larger scales. Results showed that the process was successful within limitations, and could lead to benefits in terms of reduced pollution from waste disposal, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and process economics. As a result, a KTP proposal is well advanced with Aylesford Newsprint to develop a process specific to its plant.
