An upper limit on the stochastic gravitational-wave background of cosmological origin

The Sheffield group, led by Daw, is an active participant in the LIGO stochastic working group. A key tool for data selection for this paper is the band limited RMS monitor, which Daw wrote, feeding into the data quality flags that gate data for the analysis from which the paper’s results are derived. Furthermore, the results utilize the LIGO hardware. Daw participated in the commissioning and testing of several components of the hardware, particularly on the LIGO Livingston interferometer, and achieved first lock of the Michelson interferometer, enabling the acquisition of the data for this paper.
