<07>This paper shows how automated tools used in hardware and software verification can be applied in novel ways to analyse complex socio-technical systems like hospitals and control centers. The approach is demonstrated through the analysis of a dataset describing actual practice in a real-world emergency dispatch system. Latent hazards were identified that went unnoticed in a previous analysis of the same dataset carried out with standard techniques. The approach described was later used successfully in a hospital post-market design/use review research study about a new glucometer. It identified issues with the device and important themes for such reviews.
