Additional information

This play was last edited in the Arden series in 1955, and the new Arden 3 series edition has gone back to the first quartos and folio in establishing the text. The result has been to overturn centuries of editing decisions, and a charting of the bibliographical history of the play. In addition to the text and a new, and fuller set of textual and other explanatory notes, a new and much fuller historical context has been established that comprises a substantial part of the 159pp. Introduction. An attempt has been made to combine historical, and critical material along with an up-to-date theatre history of the play in an edition that will be of assistance both to literary scholars, as well as theatrical practitioners. The edition also makes valuable use of the latest bibliographical techniques, as well as availing itself of current theoretically informed literary analysis
